I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be involved in pregnancy and birth. Everything about the process of pregnancy and magic of birth fascinated me. Being born and raised in Fort St. John, a small rural farming/oil and gas town in North East BC, I was not exposed to the option of midwifery until university. After graduating from the same high school as both of my parents, I moved to Edmonton to complete my first undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition from U of A. It was there that I learned what a midwife was and began working as a doula with an at-risk teen pregnancy agency. My time as a doula showed me what a difference an engaged support person can make in a vulnerable person’s life. This was my first dose of continuity of care and it felt right for me.

So, with little interest in becoming a Registered Dietitian, I was accepted into McMaster’s Midwifery Education Program and moved to Hamilton. During my degree, I worked in Vancouver with midwifery clinics and clients around the city on a qualitative research project focused on why women choose homebirth, did an international placement in Dunedin, New Zealand, worked in three different Baby Friendly Hospitals and had the pleasure of welcoming over 150 babies into the world. I completed my final year of training in an urban midwifery clinic in Toronto before accepting a job in Vancouver. I worked in the east end of Vancouver for two years and then in Delta. I am very excited to be joining Annie in team two in September and look forward meeting and caring for your expanding family.

After living all over the country and travelling the rest of it, I can firmly say that Vancouver is a beautiful city filled with interesting people and events. I live here with my partner of ten years and as avid skiers we are excited to live close to the mountains once again.
