I have always believed deeply that individuals are the experts of their own bodies, and it is this belief that drew me to midwifery. The client-centered model of care, which respects the unique experiences and wisdom of each person we support, is at the heart of my practice. I feel privileged to walk alongside individuals and families during such a transformative period in their lives, fostering an environment of empowerment and trust.
Before becoming a midwife, I trained as a professional ballet dancer at Canada’s National Ballet School. This early experience gave me a deep appreciation of the body, movement, and its strength. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, with minors in Children’s Studies and Ballet, which has shaped my holistic approach to care, considering both the physical and emotional well-being of those I serve.
I have also spent time working internationally, living briefly in Québec and Bénin doing NGO work. This exposure to different cultures and healthcare systems heightened my awareness of the importance of culturally congruent care. My time working in Technology and Retail Operations at lululemon athletica also instilled in me the value of innovation, organization, and working collaboratively – skills I continue to apply in my clinical work.
Originally born in Taiwan, I was raised on the traditional lands of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Stolo, and Musqueam nations. As a child of immigrants, I am passionate about improving BIPOC representation in healthcare and making midwifery care more accessible, particularly for marginalized communities. I am honored to provide care in both English and Mandarin, ensuring that more families feel seen, heard, and supported during their pregnancy and birth journeys.
Beyond my clinical work, I volunteer as a medical translator for Chinese seniors with Yarrow Intergenerational Society, and I have been involved in leadership roles with the Midwives' Association of BC and the UBC Midwifery Students' Association. When I’m not working, I enjoy spinning, dancing, reading, and spending time with my two dogs, Hank and Nugget.
